NAMING YOUR BABY
You may have been looking forward to carrying your own baby all these while. I am sure if you are someone like me, you would probably have been stealing the admiration of babies around you. I did that before I gave birth to my princess (and still do, of course). Babies are so adorable and indeed, they are our source of blessings.
Now, after all the period of waiting, you are expecting your bundle of joy. You may have one thousand and one names in mind. Sometimes, it may be challenging to give your baby the perfect name especially because you have so much to say. Fancy giving your baby so many names (from grandma, grandpa, aunty and so on. My baby has twenty-one names, yet two more names came after the naming ceremony).
Giving your baby the best fit of a name requires that you should be thoughtful, sensitive and even prayerful. What is in a name after all? (You can ask Jabez or Jacob for that). But for your baby, I will lend you a hand, and of course, choosing your baby's name solely depends on you. All I can do for you is give you tips on how to come about that name that is just right.
Choosing a name for your baby can be harder than you think. As well as coming up with something both mother and father like, the name of your baby will stay with him or her forever for the rest of his life, so it must be suitable for all ages.
CHOOSING A NAME
As a starting point for discovering which names you like and which you don't, have a look through the numerous baby names around you. Ask your partner to also do the same. On your comparison list, identify the names that are common to both of you.
Take note of your baby's initials. The initials you love might just inspire the names you will finally come up with. For example; someone who love the initial MKO might just look out for names that will achieve those initials.
Make sure the names you pick are easy to pronounce and if not, think up the abbreviation that will help your baby to be addressed well and properly among his or her peers. Children can be naughty and giving your child a name that will make going to school a tragedy because of jesters is simply unfair.
WHAT IS IN A NAME?
Ask Naomi's sons in the bible, names are powerful. I might not be able to quote exactly now, but I read somewhere that the names of Naomi's sons meant something like 'puppy' or let's just say young animals. No wonder they didn't last. Don't be careless in giving your baby a good name. It has a way of affecting such a child. I was in a group sometime ago and a particular man was made the leader, not for any other reason but because he said his first name was Champion. Can you beat that? Well, stuffs like that don't happen everytime but I bet a good name is far better than a bad or thoughtless one.
